Lakewold Garden
Lakewold is our favorite garden in the region. It is wonderful early in Spring but a visit around Mother’s Day is also a time for many surprises. We were hunting for the Embothrium coccineum and we were not disappointed. The unfurling ferns were a delight but the best discovery of the day was a gorgeous lady slipper orchid. We visited last weekend on May 19th.
Such beautiful shots of Lakewold. I live very close and seldom visit. It’s a wonderful place and has s great shop. Because of your post, I’ll make an effort to see Lakewold again soon. The Embothrium coccineum looks gorgeous. Were the blue poppies blooming yet?
Yes they were. There is a new bed along the big lawn (with the Princess (Paulowania). The peonies were just starting to bloom also.
They are some new changes. One thing that changed was the shop. They still have the great selection of plants but the other items garden gifts have been reduced. They moved the entrance where you pay from the trailer in the parking lot to the second room in the gift shop. We were tempted by the plants as usual but didn’t go inside the shop this time. They had some great ferns – we have a shade bed that we need to plant but resisted. 🙂
