Inauguration Thoughts

What a day. Oh happy day!
I never would have guessed that I would feel such hope and anticipation as I do today. Four years ago, I was in Holland awaiting the results from Ohio that would give us four more years of George Bush. My co-workers asked “How? How could Americans elect George Bush again?” I had no good answer. Fear. Fear of terrorism; fear of disrupting their financial security; fear of change.
And now, today we are making history. Barack Hussain Obama… our inspiration and hope… is now leading. And he has a brain! So much rests on his shoulders.
Over the years, I have become more and more removed from our nation’s leadership and politics. It is not how I was raised. I spent my teenage years with tears and emotion for Bobby and Martin. I had some hopes raised during the Clinton years but it was never the same. Until now.
I did not think we would elect Obama, a man of color, a man of intelligence. But yes we did. And now it is time for us to help him. Help him make this a great nation again.
Here are some scenes from today’s ceremonies

Very cool post Marta! Day one and a new fresh beginning feels good. I really enjoyed the photos you selected.
Marta, thank you for expressing what so many of us feel. It felt as though a ray of hope was breaking through the clouds…what a day it was for our country. Such unification. I hadn’t felt that unified since I was a kid in the 60’s and we flash the peace sign to a stranger and really felt the world would change. Our spirits as a nation are soaring. Read the quote that Sandi posted on her Whistlestop blog from Ghandi. So appropriate, it’s really on all of our shoulders to do our part now. Great photos too. Thank you.
Beautiful post! I agree with everything you said. I also was brought up to be very involved with politics but have been so disillusioned for so man years now. I also had no answer when was asked year after year how we could elect G W Bush.
Finally, a man of peace, honesty, character, brains, and compassion. I am not a morning person and usually arrive at work still not awake and definitely not perky and cheery, but this morning, I had the biggest smile when I walked in our office first thing in the morning, and I am still crying every time I see something about the inauguration!
Love love love your photos!!
“And he has a brain!”
Love this line! What a relief it is to know that he’s in charge now.
