What to do on Maui when it rains? — 8 Comments

  1. Hi Marta, looks like pretty good choices. I haven’t been to Maui in years so can’t help with additional suggestions for you. Sometimes if it is a light rain you can still venture outside. Something I learned to do from my trip in Scotland. 🙂

Hope the weather clears up for you both. Have a wonderful time in Maui.

  2. Maui Ocean Center – yeah! Hopefully, the rain will be quick, light, sporadic showers – the kind that come and go quickly. At least the rain will be warm! And you will have a better chance to see a Haw’n rainbow.

  3. Made myself watch the weather tonight for you (been avoiding the news with all the political crap/commercials). There is a quick front passing through – probably will only last half a day or a day at most. Supposed to hit us sometime tomorrow (Wed) so Maui will probably get hit tomorrow night or Thursday. Remember though that it will often rain off and on over part of the island while the drier parts of the island stay sunny.

I checked the weather source that usually is accurate and found this forecast for Wailea which is promising – http://www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/findweather/getForecast?query=Wailea,%20Hawaii&wuSelect=WEATHER&MR=1

I would highly recommend the aquarium. I have heard wonderful things about it and would love to visit if I ever get over to Maui again. I don’t know enough about the other options. Shopping in Lahaina was ok when I was there about 12 years ago. It could be though that it is not much different than some shops here on Oahu.

It has been muggy and hot lately but the nights have been cooler (although probably still hot for you).

I just went to Whole Foods today. They have delicious opakapaka (fish) and onaga. It is fresshly caught here in the islands. There is only a 2 month window ever year when this fish can be caught. Expensive though! I have not had onaga but the fish guy told me today that it is also very good. I bought a small piece of opakapaka for a treat.

    Have a great time!!! 🙂

  4. It doesn’t often rain ALL DAY, so it could just be an hour or two. Remember that even if it is raining in Napili/Lahaina, it is often not raining in Kihei/Wailea, the “sunny side” of the island.
Check out Wailea shopping center, Makawao, the windsurfers (rain won’t stop them) or just go have another Lilikoi margarita at Hailimaili!

  5. Hi, me again. Well the rain has hit us today (WED) and it is very dreary. It looks like Thursday will be rainy on Maui unless the storm travels there faster than predicted. The good news is that it is supposed to only last for one day with only lingering Windward/Mauka (mountain) showers after that. Hope you get a lot of sunny weather! 🙂

  6. Thanks for the forecast and information on Whole Foods. We visited Costco today to get beverages and snacks but I hope to stop at WF next time we’re in that area.

The weather was okay at the airport and Kihue/Wailea but got rainy when we got to Lahaina. I suspect the rain has arrived and hopefully it will pass tonight. Sat or Sun are the days we plan to go to Haleakela – but we’re staying flexible…
