  1. Yay. Just stumbled upon your site. You’ll have a great time; my partner and I did Western Australia in September 2002, looking at wildflowers and hiking. We had so much fun there wasn’t a lot of time to blog, but we did blog some at http://www.marmot.net/2002au/2002-09/log/default.htm

    Some recommendations and observations:
    – the Best Western in Cervantes is about the only place to stay. There really isn’t much of a town.
    – Towns in WA are tiny. Even large ones like Narrogin are only 4000 people, if that.
    – Leseur National Park was great for a short hike, and lots of flowers.
    – There are many many places to pull off the road and look at flowers. Do it, especially if there’s been a bushfire next to the road. The drive east of Geraldton had a lot of spectacular flowers just off the road.
    – The Sterling Ranges were great, as was the hike to the top of Bluff Knoll.
    – The scenery around Albany was fantastic, especially the drive to the granite bowls on the peninsula south and west of the town. Big banksias with red flowers growing on the side of the road, almost like weeds, and even some WA Christmas trees in bloom.

Anyway, there’s more pictures on the webpages… and email me back at danlmarmot@hotmail.com if you have questions!
