Lilacs — 6 Comments

  1. There is nothing like the scent of lilacs! For me, it’s one of those scents that takes me back to childhood on the the “old homestead” in Wyoming.

I didn’t know that about them being used as indicator plants — interesting information.

They don’t do well here, I think because of the lack of cold in the winter.

  2. Hi Marta, I enjoyed this post a lot. It’s so interesting to learn how Lilacs are used. And they are also quite beautiful.

Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful photos and I also learned something new and interesting.

  3. My mom had 2 lilac bushes in the front yard and one in the side yard when I was growing up. I always remember having to be careful of the hornets buzzing around the lilac bushes trying to get in the front door of our house!

I agree that lilacs were the tell tale sign of spring. My mom’s bushes were lilac color – very light purplish (guess that is where the color name comes from 🙂 I always think of my mom whenever I see lilacs.

Interesting facts about the indicators. Never knew that. Great post!
