We spent two week Sabah and Sarawak states of Malaysia on the island of Borneo. It was our first trip to Asia. We flew via Seoul and spent our first week in Sabah. We stayed two days exploring Kota Kinabalu. We rented a car and drove to Kundusang where we stayed at lovely Magic Mountain Country Home. The owner, Lily, made us feel very welcome and provided excellent meals. It became our home. We spent the days exploring the trails around Mesilau hunting for Nepenthes. We took the guided Nepenthes walk at the Nature Center and saw the largest Nepenthes in the world, Nepenthes Rajah. We also drove to Poring where we saw the largest flower in the world, Rafflesia.
We returned to Kota Kinabalu and next day flew to Latah Datu. Here we were traveled four hours through the wild jungle to Borneo Rainforest Lodge. What a wonderful experience, luxury accommodations and food in the middle of a wild tropical jungle. Our guide took us on exciting nature walks where we were able to catch a glimpse of an Orangutan in the wild.
We return to Kota Kinabalu for a flight to Kuching. Here we stayed at the Singgahsana Lodge. It is well run guest house. We explored Kuching and went to the Saturday Market before spending two days in Bako National Park. It is an adventure just getting to Bako - first by bus and then by boat and maybe even a bit of wading if you arrive when the tide is out. We hiked and watched the wildlife including the curious looking Proboscis Monkeys and bearded pigs.
We returned to Kuching and spent two final relaxing days at the Village House on Santubong Peninsula.
