  1. Marta,
Those are some amazing photos, and the eco-lodge looks wonderful. I’m happy to travel along with you to Borneo via your blog, because those creepy-crawly critters are giving me the shivers just looking at them! (And the thought of leeches… !)
Thanks for sharing – I’m enjoying the travelogue.

  2. Wow, Marta. Amazing photos! And I love the lodge, it looks beautiful. Sounds like I real fun place. I think you just put it on my travel radar:)
And I also love your new header photo of the zebras. Where did you take that?
While hiking in the jungle, were mosquitoes a problem?

Marta’s reply: Thanks Candi! It is a wonderful place to visit. We didn’t have too much of a problem with mosquitoes. We wore long sleeves and long pants and that took care of the mosquitoes. The lodge also had an electric mosquito coil that that they turned on in each room at night. There are more at night but I don’t remember getting bit. The ‘problem’ is more the leeches when you go out hiking. We didn’t have any problems with the leeches when we arrived but we definitely had to watch out when it rained. I had leech socks on (those weird green leggings that I’m wearing). We did have to flick several off our shoes and saw them on leaves.

The new header is from a previous trip to South Africa and Namibia. It was taken in Etosha. You can find more Africa pictures on my person website – martageorge linked in the sidebar.

  3. Hi Marta, thank you so much for this great read this morning! What an adventure this trip was. That canopy walkway looked cool and kind of fun to do and the views down to the forest is amazing.

The lodge where you and G stayed looks really nice and comfortable. I love all of your photos and that was really cool how you captured the Orangutan. That photo against the sky is actually kind of neat. He/she looked pretty large. That must have been pretty exciting to see him/her live and in person like that! wow!

I have to confess that I am afraid of anything that crawls or creeps around especially snakes and leeches. But you took some amazing photos our little friends. 🙂

It looks like you really had a great adventure and trip. Thank you so much for sharing your experiences and your awesome photos!

  4. Wow, I am so impressed! Although I love to climb towers, I don’t think I would be brave enough to walk across that canopy walk even if you say it wasn’t scary. This advice I realize is coming from someone who flicks leeches of herself… that would be the deal breaker for me.

I am not a bug or slimy creature person at all. I am so glad you posted all these photos and even peeked at the ones with the warning with my eyes half shut (recognized the centipede right away which is always better seen in photos than in person but still icky).

Like Colleen, I am excited to see Borneo through your eyes via your blog because the bugs will keep Borneo off my bucket list.

The eco-lodge looks like it was a little piece of heaven in the jungle. I can imagine the sounds must have been so cool. I loved your Orangutan pictures. How cool that you got to see one! Great post! Thanks so much for sharing all of your photos.

  5. Thanks toyou for this wonderful trip shared this way. My boy has chosen to study Danum Valey for a project and this is a wonderful thing for him.
I feel like I have done a mental trip as you went from arrival to the whole experience even accommodation Thanks
